Rafael Nadal Confirms He’ll Return at Brisbane International

Rafael Nadal took a break from tennis after getting injured at this year’s Australian Open, and we haven’t seen him play ever since. After taking time to focus on his recovery, the Spanish tennis legend announced he’ll make his comeback at the Brisbane International this winter. Nadal shared the amazing news in a video he posted on social media, where he simply said, “Hello everyone. After a year away from competition, it’s time to come back. It will be in Brisbane the first week of January. I’ll see you there.” Nadal’s announcement doesn’t come as a shocker after the Australian Open CEO Craig Tiley confirmed he’ll take part in this tournament. Since Brisbane International serves as the warm-up to the first Grand Slam of the year, Nadal will have a chance to test the waters and warm himself up for the next big thing. The former no. 1 hadn’t played a professional tennis match since being eliminated from the Australian Open in the second round. A hip injury that has given him trouble throughout the tournament compromised his ability to compete, and he eventually missed out the rest of the season, dropping out of the top 100 in ATP rankings for the first time since 2003. Nadal later announced he’s plotting his return for 2024, but also added this will be his last year playing professional tennis.
