Rafael Nadal Loses to Cameron Norrie at First Edition of United Cup

The first edition of the United Cup is currently taking place in Australia, and the match between Great Britain and Spain gave us an unexpected winner. Rafael Nadal was defeated by Cameron Norrie for the first time ever, ending 2022 with a disappointing loss. Nadal managed to beat Norrie in all of their previous face-offs, but he wasn’t so lucky during their latest encounter. The 22-time Grand Slam champion was beaten by Norrie in three straight sets, losing an important point for Team Spain. Norrie said this victory is a great way to end his year, adding it feels really special because Nadal has easily beaten him in their last few matches. "I was thinking I'd never won a set before against him and I came out firstly wanting to do that. I had to stay super patient. It was a super physical match and I enjoyed it. It was huge to get through that one and finally beat him. It was a crazy match," said Norrie. The 2023 United Cup is taking place between December 29, 2022, and January 8, 2023, in several cities across Australia. This marks the first edition of this tournament which is the first mixed-gender team event to offer both ATP and WTA rankings points to its players, who hail from 18 different countries.
