Rafael Nadal Plotting His Comeback to Tennis for December

Earlier this year, Rafael Nadal announced he’s stepping away from tennis to deal with an injury that’s been giving him trouble, but his break didn’t last for too long. The Spanish tennis champion is gearing up for a comeback, and he’s hoping to return in December. Nadal is planning to take part in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, as a way of warming up for the Australian Open early next year. Nothing is official just yet, but the 20-time grand slam champion said this is his goal and that he’s working hard to make it happen. "The injury in my foot still needs to get a little better, but I'm already training almost an hour and a half a day so that's positive. I'm training, I'm feeling better. I'm back on the court," said Nadal. 2021 has been a rocky year for the Spaniard, who’d only played two matches after being eliminated in the semi-finals of the French Open back in June. He announced he’s taking a break from tennis in August, saying he wants to deal with the left foot injury that harmed his performance for most of last year. Nadal was crowned as the Australian Open champion in 2009, and it’s the only Grand Slam tournament that he only won once.
