Rafael Nadal’s French Open Future Uncertain After Madrid Withdrawal

Rafael Nadal recently dropped out of the Monte Carlo Masters, and he’ll miss another major tournament this spring. His French Open future is in jeopardy after the 22-time Grand Slam champion announced his exit from the Madrid Open due to a hip injury. Nadal recently took to social media to reveal his injury still hasn’t healed, adding it’s impossible to set deadlines in the face of his recent struggles. The 36-year-old Spaniard said he tried training but decided to follow the medical advice and get another treatment for his injury. "I have no choice but to try to have the right attitude throughout this time, try to give myself the opportunity to compete in one of the tournaments that remain of the clay season and I have no choice but to work and be with the right mentality," said Nadal. The Spaniard has 14 French Open titles under his belt and is often referred to as “the king of clay”. It’s unclear if he’ll be back to compete for his 15 Roland-Garros title after he pulled out of several clay tournaments this season. Nadal sustained his most recent hip injury at the Australian Open in January and hadn’t competed since. After missing several major tournaments, including Indian Wells and Miami Masters, he dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since 2005.
