Real Madrid Wins Copa del Rey for the First Time in Almost a Decade

Real Madrid lifted several pretty impressive trophies in recent years, but Copa del Rey has been eluding them. After a nine-year-long draught at the Spanish Cup, Real Madrid finally came out victorious, defeating Osasuna to win Copa del Rey for the first time since 2014. Real Madrid owes their latest victory to Rodrygo, who scored both of their goals on Saturday in Seville. He gave his side an early lead 106 seconds into the game, with the fastest goal at Copa del Rey in the last 17 years. Osasuna held onto hope they could prevail after Lucas Torro leveled in the second half. Their comeback was demolished by Rodrygo’s second goal of the match, and he eventually led Real to a confident 2-1 win. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti praised the players for winning every possible title in just two seasons and said they achieved something important with this victory. “This Copa has come at an important moment, after overcoming complicated qualifying rounds. It’s a well-deserved prize after all the effort. The stress is very big in this type of match, especially when you are such a favorite. I’m happy, but fatigue prevails,” he said post-match. Following their Copa del Rey win, Real Madrid is on a quest to defend their Champions League title, and they’re set to face Manchester City in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
