Robert Suarez Signs 5-Year, 46$ Million Deal with San Diego Padres

Robert Suarez joined the San Diego Padres earlier this year, and he’s not going anywhere. The Venezuelan baseball pitcher is prolonging his stay in San Diego after signing a five-year deal with Padres, reportedly worth $46 million. Suarez signed a one-year contract with a 2023 player option with the Padres late last year and made his MLB debut with the team back in April. He’s proven himself as an effective late-inning man, especially during the postseason, and the Padres made sure to lock him up for future seasons with a new contract, which is currently pending a physical. His new $46 million deal will have him earning an annual salary of $10 million in the first three years of the deal and $8 million in the last two. The deal comes with an opt-out clause after three years when he’s allowed to choose to stay with the Padres or become a free agent. Before joining the Padres, Suarez spent five seasons in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball league, playing for such teams as the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks and Hanshin Tigers. He made quite a mark during his first in the MLB, establishing himself as one of the top relievers on the free-agent market before re-signing with the Padres.
