Romelu Lukaku’s Early Goal Sends Chelsea to FIFA Club World Cup Final

Chelsea doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to the FIFA Club World Cup, but they’ll soon get a chance to redeem themselves. The English Premier League club made it to the upcoming Club World Cup final after defeating Al-Hilal 1-0 on Wednesday. Chelsea faced the Saudi football club at the Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, and they came out victorious this time around. They owe their victory to an early goal by Romelu Lukaku, which came just after the half-hour mark. Despite the fact they managed to win, Chelsea wasn’t really on top of their game in this match. The team’s coach Thomas Tuchel wasn’t able to travel to Abu Dhabi after testing positive for Covid-19. His absence reflected on the team’s performance, but his assistant Zsolt Low managed to reach out to him during the game. “We spoke to Thomas at half-time. He had the feeling that the players were nervous. Chelsea have never won this competition – that’s why the players felt pressure,” said Low. Chelsea hasn’t made it to the FIFA Club World final since 2012 when they lost out to Corinthians. They’ll have a chance to redeem themselves against another Brazillian team, Palmeiras, on February 12 - almost a decade after their last defeat.
