Rory Mcilroy Resigns From PGA Tour's Policy Board

Rory McIlroy has been a crucial member of the PGA Tour Policy Board, but his last few months with the organization have been rocky. The North Irish golf player announced his decision to step down from the board amid intense funding negotiations. Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour’s commissioner, said that McIlroy’s resignation letter stated he made this difficult decision due to professional and personal commitments. “Given the extraordinary time and effort that Rory – and all his fellow player directors – have invested in this unprecedented, transformational period in our history, we certainly understand and respect his decision to step down in order to focus on his game and his family,” said Monahan in a statement. McIlroy’s exit is quite a shocker, but we should’ve seen him coming given his shaky relationship with the board in the past few months. He’s been a firm opponent of Saudi-backed LIV Golf since its launch, and PGA Tour's decision to merge with this league stirred some commotion. McIlroy said he felt like “a sacrificial lamb” following the deal since he was one of the most vocal PGA Tour loyalists. His exit was announced in the face of high-level funding negotiations, which involved the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
