Rory McIlroy Returns to No. 1 in World Rankings Following CJ Cup

It’s been two years since Rory McIlroy set atop the world rankings, but he’s finally ready for a comeback! He retained his CJ Cup title in South Carolina this past weekend and this epic victory propellered him back to no. 1. McIlroy scored a one-shot victory over American Kurt Kitayama, who briefly drew level with him and also hit 67. The Irish golf champion eventually managed to come out victorious, after shooting a four-under-par 67 at Congaree Golf Club to finish the tournament on 17 under. McIlroy was pretty emotional after his latest win and described it as a big achievement, considering the journey he embarked on in recent months. "I've worked so hard over the past 12 months to get myself back to this place. I feel like I'm enjoying this game as much as I ever have. "I absolutely love the game of golf and when I go out there and play with that joy, it has definitely showed over these past 12 months,” said McIlroy. The Irishman claimed his 23rd PGA Tour win at the CJ Cup, his first major victory since he won his third Tour Championship and FedEx Cup back in late August. With this win, he successfully surpassed Scottie Scheffler to claim no. 1 in the world rankings.
