Ryan Kerrigan Announces His Retirement After 11 Seasons in NFL

Ryan Kerrigan spent the past 11 years building a successful career in the NFL, but he’s finally ready to hang up his cleats. After signing a ceremonial one-day contract with the Washington Commanders, Kerrigan announced he’s retiring from the NFL. The 33-year-old player didn’t make this decision lightly and his retirement was in the books for quite some time. His left knee prevented him from giving it his all during his last season, and the situation was so bad that the doctors told him he should’ve retired last year. At the time, Kerrigan said he wasn’t emotionally ready to not play football anymore, but things changed in later months and he decided it was time to say goodbye. "While I'm thankful for the amazing times and memories I was able to have as a player, I'm equally thankful to now have the wisdom and courage to walk away. We all eventually come to the end of our playing days, and that time is now for me," Kerrigan said in a statement. Kerrigan played for the Washington Commanders between 2011 and 2020 before signing a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. He wanted to retire as a member of his old team, so he signed a symbolic one-day contract with Washington before announcing his retirement.
