Shohei Ohtani Expected to Hit in 2024 & Pitch in 2025 After Elbow Surgery

Shohei Ohtani is one of the Los Angeles Angels' biggest stars, but his abilities will be limited for the time being. After undergoing elbow surgery this week, it’s officially been announced that Ohtani won’t be able to hit until 2024 and pitch until 2025. Ohtani took to social media earlier this week to tell his fans that he underwent elbow surgery on Tuesday and that everything went very well. "Thank you very much for everyone's prayers and kind words. It was very unfortunate that I couldn't finish out the year on the field, but I will be rooting on the boys until the end. I will work as hard as I can and do my best to come back on the diamond stronger than ever," wrote Ohtani on social media. Nez Balelo, Ohtani’s agent, said he won’t be able to hit without any restrictions until 2024, adding he’s expected to return to pitching by 2025. Balelo explained this decision was made “with a heavy emphasis on the big picture”, saying Ohtani wanted to make sure that the choice he makes now would make it possible to hit and pitch for many years to come. Ohtani was ruled out for the rest of the season earlier this month, after suffering an oblique strain. He's been with the Los Angeles Angels since 2018 and is widely considered one of the best two-way players of his generation.
