Southampton Faces Relegation Following a Disappointing Loss to Fulham

After 11 years in the Premier League, Southampton will no longer be playing against the best teams in England. The Saints are on course to be relegated after suffering a crushing blow in their latest face-off with Fulham and losing 0-2. After an uneventful first half, Carlos Vinicius' opener gave Fulham a well-deserved lead, destroying Southampton’s hopes they could come out of this match as winners. Aleksandar Mitrovic made a comeback after an eight-game ban and scored another goal for Fulham. This is just the latest in the long series of losses for Southampton, and it cemented their spot at the bottom of the Premier League table. Their relegation was confirmed after this defeat, which marks the end of their 11-year-long stay in the top division of English football. The team’s captain James Ward-Prowse said they should’ve performed at a better level this season, and added it will be testing time for everybody as they prepare to get back in the Premier League. "From the first day of pre-season until right now you can tell the standards at the club have slipped. We need to go away individually and as a club and assess if we've done everything we possibly could. I don't think we have and that is a shame," said Ward-Prowse.
