Spain Defeats France to Win Their Fourth EuroBasket Title

This year’s EuroBasket was one for the books, and the final game gave us an epic showdown between Spain and France. The Spanish side came out victorious on Sunday night and scored a 88-76 win over France thanks to valiant efforts from the Hernangomez brothers. Toronto Raptors’ Juancho Hernangomez finished the game with 27 points, while his brother Willy netted a total of 14 points and eight rebounds. This marks Spain’s fourth EuroBasket win, and they won all four of them since 2009, under head coach Sergio Scariolo. Willy Hernangomez was named the MVP of the tournament, and he said he’s proud of his teammates, the coaching staff, and the whole Spanish federation for making this victory possible. "We much deserve this gold medal, the way we grew and developed through the tournament. It was something amazing. The trust that was inside the locker room was something special. I'm just so proud, so lucky to be around those guys." The EuroBasket 2022 took place between September 1-18 across Europe. It was one of the most anticipated tournaments in EuroBasket’s history due to the participation of NBA superstars Nikola Jokić (Serbia), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece), and Luka Dončić (Slovenia), but none of their teams made it past the quarterfinals.
