Team World Beat Team Europe to Defend Their Laver Cup Title

Team World came into this year’s Laver Cup determined to defend their title from Team Europe – and they did it with flying colors! Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe helped lead Team World to a dominant 13-2 victory against Team Europe, easily securing the trophy for the second year in a row. Team World dominated the tournament from the get-go, and Team Europe stood no chance against them. They scored their only points with Norwegian Casper Ruud's win over American Tommy Paul on Saturday, while Team World won every remaining match at this tournament. They sealed the deal with a tense doubles match, played between Americans Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe vs. Poland's Hubert Hurkacz and Russia's Andrey Rublev. Shelton and Tiafoe won 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5), helping Team World reach 13 points and win the whole thing! The tennis legend John McEnroe served as the captain of Team World, which also included American Taylor Fritz and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. "We stepped up and I thought all the guys played great. This was a special year for us. I know they're going to come back strong but I'll take two in a row any day. And I'm starting to think is it possible for three in a row!" said McEnroe post-match.
