Two-Time Stanley Cup Champion Patric Hornqvist Announces Retirement

After 15 successful years in the NFL, Patric Hornqvist is ready to hang up his skates and say his farewell to the ice. The Swedish ice hockey star, who most recently played with the Florida Panthers, announced his retirement after winning two Stanley Cup titles. Hornqvist released an official statement announcing his farewell to the NHL, explaining that he didn’t want to risk any future harm due to his history of injuries. "I've been in this bubble since I started to play as a kid. Hockey has been a huge part of my life, so of course it's a difficult decision to make. It will be a big transition, but it feels good now, I'm looking forward to the rest of my life. It's the most important thing," said Hornqvist. Hornqvist notably helped the Pittsburgh Penguins win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. He even scored the Cup-winning goal in 2017 against his former team the Nashville Predators, but this was only one of his many notable triumphs. Hornqvist was drafted by the Nashville Predators in 2005 and played for their AHL affiliate the Milwaukee Admirals before making his NHL debut. Over the course of 901 games with the Predators, Penguins, and Panthers he scored 264 goals and 543 points.
