USA Basketball Team Ends Olympic Win Streak After Losing to France

The USA men's basketball team hasn’t lost a single game at the Olympics since 2004, but their winning streak came to an end in Tokyo. In a shocking upset that no one saw coming, France managed to score a major victory against the USA on Sunday, with an 83-76 victory. The Americans were off to a good start during the first half, leading 45-37, but the disastrous third quarter took a toll on them. They were outscored 25-11, struggled to recover as the match progressed, and failed to regain the lead in the fourth quarter. Evan Fournier was the shining star of the face-off between France and the USA, with 28 points scored for the French team. His 3-pointer with just under a minute put France ahead for good, and it was too late for the team USA to get ahead. Fournier praised his rivals by saying they are “better individually”, but can be beaten as a team. The defeat of the USA men’s basketball team came as a huge shocker because this is their first defeat since 2004. France ended their 25-game Olympic winning streak, marking only the sixth loss in the history of the tournament for the USA.
