World Cup 2022: Round of 16 Underway, France and England to Face in Quarter-Finals

The World Cup entered the knockout stage this past weekend and set the scene for the quarter-finals. After winning their matches in the round of 16 on Sunday, France and England are set to face in the quarter-finals later this week. France secured their place in the next phase of the tournament after defeating Poland 3-1 on Sunday. It was a huge night for Olivier Giroud, who became France's all-time leading men's goal scorer, after netting one goal against Poland. Kylian Mbappe also helped lead France to the quarter-finals by scoring two goals on Sunday. England also had an easy time defeating their opponents on Sunday. They cruised past Senegal, scoring a confident 3-0 win, thanks to the three goals by Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, and Bukayo Saka. France and England are set to face on December 10, but this won’t be the first quarter-finals match to take place. The Netherlands also made it to the next stage of the tournament after defeating the US on Saturday, and they'll play against Argentina on December 9. The remaining quarter-finals will be determined with the remaining four rounds of 16 matches on Monday and Tuesday. Japan is facing Croatia tonight, while Brazil will play against South Korea. Round of 16 will conclude tomorrow with matches between Morocco and Spain, plus Portugal and Switzerland, with the winners set to face in the final quarter-final match on December 10.
