World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz to Drop in Rankings Following Miami Open Loss

Carlos Alcaraz made it to this year’s Miami Open as the first seed and the world no. 1, but his reign will end following the semi-finals loss. Alcaraz failed to make it to the tournament’s final after losing his latest match to Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz narrowly won the first set after forcing a tiebreak, but luck wasn’t on his side for the rest of the match. Sinner easily defeated him in the next two sets and managed to score a 6-7 6-4 6-2 win to book a meeting in the final for the second time in his career. Alcaraz briefly returned to no. 1, but he’s set to lose the ranking to Novak Djokovic after failing to defend his title in Miami. He also failed to complete the Sunshine Double due to this loss, but he was happy to face Sinner again and continue their “beautiful” rivalry. “All I can think about is to improve my level to beat Jannik… I feel something different about the crowd when I play against Jannik. I think around the world there’s probably all the people watching this match because I think it's really beautiful to watch,” said Alcaraz post-match. Sinner will face Daniil Medvedev in the Miami Open final on Sunday for a chance to win the tournament for the first time.
