Zach Johnson Named US Team Captain at 2023 Ryder Cup

The 2023 Ryder Cup is over a year away, but the Team United States is already gearing up for one of the biggest golf competitions in the world. Zach Johnson was named the US team captain, and he’ll try to lead them to the first win on European soil in 30 years. Johnson described this captaincy as the greatest honor of his professional career but added it’s sobering to understand the scope of this challenge since they haven’t won Ryder Cup on the road in three decades. "There's certainly some gravity to the situation, I welcome it… It is going to be hard, very difficult but let's embrace what we have, a great opportunity to go out there and have fun and showcase some great, talented US players," Johnson told BBC Sport. Team US scored their last away win in Warwickshire in 1993, but that doesn’t mean they’re not in great shape. They most recently won this tournament last year, with a record 19–9 victory over Europe at Whistling Straits last September. The team will be in good hands with Johnson, who won the 2007 Masters and 2015 Open Championship, bringing his total of PGA Tour victories to 12. The 2023 Ryder Cup will take place in Rome, Italy from September 29-October 1, 2023.
