Arsenal Beat West Ham to Extend Premier League Lead on Boxing Day

Premier League returned with a bang on Boxing Day and gave us several pretty epic matches. The face-off between Arsenal and West Ham United was one of the most highly-anticipated fixtures, but the Gunners easily extended their Premier League lead with a 3-1 win. The luck was on West Ham’s side in the first half, and Said Benrahma gave his team a 0-1 lead with a penalty shot. Arsenal came back with vengeance in the second half, with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Eddie Nketiah all scoring goals in the span of 16 minutes, leading Arsenal to the 3-1 win. This victory extends the Gunners’ Premier League lead, and they’re now seven points ahead of the competition. Arsenal’s latest match was extra special because it marked the return of the team’s great Arsene Wenger. This was the first time he returned to the Emirates Stadium since stepping down as a manager in 2018, and his successor Mikel Arteta is hoping we’ll get to see him in the stands again. "His presence is something that has to be very, very attached to this football club so thanks [to him] for doing that because it means a lot for everybody at the club. Hopefully, he is willing to spend more time with us and be around us because he is such an influence," said Arteta post-match.
