Australian Open: Jannik Sinner Beats Daniil Medvedev To Win First Grand Slam Title

Jannik Sinner defeated many formidable opponents on his way to the Australian Open final, and Daniil Medvedev was the last one standing. Their face-off was pretty tense until the very last moment, but the 22-year-old Italian came out victorious, lifting his very first Grand Slam trophy along the way. Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev and the defending champion Novak Djokovic on his way to the final, but his match with Medvedev was the most intense one yet. They stayed on the court for all five sets, but Sinner eventually managed to claim a 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3 win. Sinner came back from two sets down to collect his first Grand Slam trophy, after his luck turned in the third set. “Somehow in the third set, I was looking for the small chances which I used and then at some point, the match changed and I’m really happy with how I reacted. Now there are so many emotions, I think I have to sit down and process it but obviously an unbelievable feeling,” said Sinner post-match. Sinner made history as the first Italian player to win the Australian Open singles title. He’s also only the second player to win this tournament after losing the first two sets in the final, after Rafael Nadal who defeated Medvedev in 2022.
