Chelsea Sign Enzo Fernandez for British-Record Transfer Deal Worth £107 Million

Enzo Fernandez will play his next match in a Chelsea jersey, and they cashed out a fortune to get him on board. The Premier League club set a new British record when they agreed to cash out £107 million to sign a transfer deal with Benfica's midfielder. Benfica broke the news in an official statement, saying they "reached an agreement with Chelsea FC for the sale of all the rights of the player Enzo Fernandez.” They agreed to let the Argentinian player go for a hefty sum of €121 million, and this number is quite record-breaking. This sum amounts to £ 106.8 million, and it sets a new British transfer record, taking Chelsea’s spending since last summer past the £550m barrier. The record has been previously held by the £100 million deal Manchester City signed with Jack Grealish in 2021. Fernandez hasn’t been with Benfica for too long – he signed a €10 million deal with the Portuguese club back in August and went on to score four goals in 29 appearances. Many clubs have had their eye on the 22-year-old following his amazing performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He was one of the players leading Argentina to their epic victory against France in the final, and he won the tournament's Young Player Award.
