Chiefs Defend Their Super Bowl Title After Beating 49ers in Overtime

The Kansas City Chiefs came into this year’s Super Bowl as defending champions, and they had to put up quite a fight against the San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs eventually managed to lift their second consecutive Super Bowl trophy after an intense overtime battle that resulted in a 25-22 victory. Things weren’t looking so good for the Chiefs after they struggled defensively, and went to halftime down 10-3. They managed to cut down the deficit in the second half, bringing the score to 19–19 and sending the game into overtime. Things turned around after the Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 34 of 46 pass attempts for 333 yards and two touchdowns, leading their side to the second consecutive NFL title win. This was only the second Super Bowl in history to be decided in overtime, and the winner was impossible to call until the very last minute. Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP for the third time. His eyes are now set on the next big goal - winning three straight championships - and he said they’re planning to continue playing their best football after celebrating this victory. “I believe we're the hardest-working team in the NFL, and for all of that hard work to pay off... To be able to have our stamp on this great NFL history is something that I'll never take for granted,” Mahomes told reporters.
