Detroit Lions Defeat LA Rams to Win Their First Playoff Game in 32 Years

The Detroit Lions spent 32 years waiting to win a playoff game, and their wait is finally over! The Lions narrowly defeated the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night, winning their very first playoff game in over three decades. The face-off between the Lions and the Rams was uncreditable until the very last minute, and the game could've easily gone either way. Detroit eventually scored a narrow 24-23 victory, thus ending a nine-game postseason losing streak, which is the longest in NFL history. Another thing that makes this match quite unique is the fact that both starting quarterbacks previously played for the opposing team. Matthew Stafford left the Lions for the Rams in 2021, in exchange for fellow quarterback Jared Goff and three draft picks. Jared Goff came full circle with the Lions and led them to their first playoff victory against the team that once cast him away. “It means a whole lot to this city. We knew what it meant when this season started to get into the playoffs and then to get this win. And, you know, it’s just the beginning for us. We’ve got some run left,” said Goff after the game. The Green Bay Packers also had a reason to celebrate on Sunday, after stunning the Dallas Cowboys and claiming a shocking 48-32 win despite being the lowest seed in the NFC field.
