Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Takes His First Formula 1 Victory At British Grand Prix

Carlos Sainz’s very first Formula 1 title was a long time coming, but it’s finally here! The Spanish race driver came out victorious at this year’s British Grand Prix after a disastrous and messy race that was overshadowed by Zhou Guanyu’s crash. Carlos Sainz took the pole position at Silverstone, but that was only one of the factors that led to his big win. His team-mate Charles Leclerc lost a chance to revive his title hopes due to Ferrari’s questionable strategy, the championship leader Max Verstappen was having a pretty bad day, while Lewis Hamilton lost his lead after a frantic final nine laps. The most disastrous moment came when Pierre Gasly lost control of his car and crashed into Alfa Romeo's Zhou Guanyu, leading to a major collision. He was quickly extracted from the car and taken to the race medical center. Sainz said that this wasn’t an easy race to win because he struggled with balance along the way, but he was very happy because he managed to hold on and finally claim his first F1 victory. "I don't know what to say, it's amazing. First race win, 150 races later, with Ferrari in Silverstone. I cannot ask for more. It's a very special day, a day that I will never forget, a very special weekend in general,” said Sainz post-race.
