Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Planning to Retire After Roland Garros

The French Open is over a month away, but most of the world’s top tennis players are already preparing for it. That happens to be the case with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the veteran French player who announced he’s planning to retire after taking part in Roland Garros one last time. Tsonga shared a video on his social media channels, announcing he’s stepping down from tennis after this tournament. The former no. 5 revealed it took him a long time to make this decision, but he felt it’s the right choice because his body is telling him so. "I decided that I had to stop at a moment that I chose, a moment when I was able to go on the court. I have always set myself high goals to try to get what I can. For me, this will be the opportunity to do it one last time," explained Tsonga. Tsonga rose to prominence in 2008, when he reached the Australian Open final despite entering the tournament as an unseeded player. He went on to win 18 ATP singles titles and two Masters titles, in addition to a silver medal in doubles at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Tsonga will play his last game at the 2022 French Open, set to take place between May 22 and June 5.
