Joel Embiid Scores Career-High 70 Points as Sixers Beat Spurs

Joel Embiid was on fire during the Philadelphia 76ers' latest face-off against the San Antonio Spurs, and he made history along the way. The reigning MVP scored a career-high 70 points on Monday night, breaking the Sixers franchise record for most points in a single game. The Sixers defeated the Spurs 133-123 on Monday, and it was a pretty even game despite Embiid's 70-point performance. The star rookie Victor Wembanyama did his best to stand his ground to Embiid and scored an impressive 33 points, but the Spurs eventually lost by 10 points. In addition to scoring 70 points, Embiid also made a career-high 18 rebounds and contributed five assists. He became the first player in the Sixers' history to reach the 70-point mark, breaking the franchise record previously held by Wilt Chamberlain, who netted 68 points for Philadelphia in 1967. The 76ers coach Nick Nurse praised Embiid’s history-making achievement post-game, and said that even he couldn’t guess what was coming once Embiid had 34 points at halftime. "When he gets motivated like that, anything can happen. He can score in so many ways. His sheer size gets him a lot of stuff around the basket and a lot of free throws. And his shooting touch is the skill that makes it extra hard to stop him," said Nurse.
