Joel Embiid Will Represent Team USA at 2024 Paris Olympics

Many have wondered who Joel Embiid would represent at the 2024 Paris Olympics after he officially became an American citizen last year. After over a year of speculations, the Sixers’ big man made his stance clear and said he’ll play for the Team USA in Paris next year. Embiid was born in Cameroon, but he holds both French and American citizenship, as of last year. Boris Diaw, the general manager of the French men's national team, previously claimed that Embiid expressed a desire to play for France, but that’s no longer his plan. Earlier this week, Embiid took to social media to tell the world he’ll represent Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He wrote that he’s blessed to call Cameroon, France, and the USA his home and that picking a side wasn’t easy. “After talking to my family, I knew it had to be Team USA. I want to play with my brothers in the league. I want to play for my fans because they’ve been incredible since the day I came here. But most of all, I want to honor my son who was born in the US. I want my boy to know I played my first Olympics for him,” explained Embiid. Several other NBA superstars already committed to playing for Team USA next summer, including Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant and Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry.
