Lewis Hamilton Leaving Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025

Lewis Hamilton’s past few years with Mercedes have been pretty rocky, and he’s finally ready to move on. The seven-time World Champion is leaving Mercedes for Ferrari, and he’s set to replace Carlos Sainz in 2025. Despite signing a two-year extension with Mercedes just last year, Hamilton decided to activate a release option to join Ferrari. He’ll start racing for this team on a multi-year contract in 2025, following the 2024 season with Mercedes. Hamilton said he’s proud of what he’d achieved over 11 amazing years with Mercedes, adding he’ll be forever grateful for the incredible support of his Mercedes family, especially Toto Wolff for his friendship and leadership. "Mercedes has been part of my life since I was 13 years old. It's a place where I have grown up, so making the decision to leave was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. But the time is right for me to take this step, and I'm excited to be taking on a new challenge," he said in a statement. Hamilton won six World Championships during his time with Mercedes, but he failed to replicate this success in recent years. The 39-year-old will drive alongside Charles Leclerc at Ferrari in 2025, replacing Carlos Sainz, whose contract is set to expire after next season.
