Liverpool Beat Chelsea in Extra Time to Win the League Cup

Liverpool and Chelsea came head to head at Wembley on Sunday night, and their latest face-off was as tense as it gets. It was impossible to determine the winner until the very last moment, but Virgil van Dijk's extra-time goal led the Reds to their latest League Cup victory. Liverpool came into this year’s EFL Cup without some of their biggest stars, including Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota, all of whom are recovering from injuries. That didn’t stop them from giving it their all against Chelsea and they had to spend 118 minutes on the pitch before we finally got the winner. Liverpool owes their League Cup trophy to Virgil van Dijk's extra-time header, which finally gave them a lead they desperately needed after almost two hours of play. This marks Liverpool’s 10th EFL Cup triumph and the second under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp. He described it as the "most special trophy" he has ever won and praised the young squad that made it happen. "The team, a squad, an academy full of character. I am so proud I could be part of that tonight. The craziest thing is, we deserved it. We had lucky moments, they had lucky moments. The boys showed up, it was really cool," Klopp told Sky Sports.
