Nadal & Medvedev Among Players Pulling Out of Qatar Open

The Qatar Open is one of the most exciting ATP tournaments taking place this month, but several leading tennis players will sit this one out. The Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal recently pulled out of the tournament, and so did the defending champion Daniil Medvedev. After withdrawing from the Australian Open due to a muscle injury he sustained at the Brisbane International, Nadal revealed he’ll miss out on the Qatar Open, as well. The 22-time Grand Slam champion wants to focus on his recovery before making a comeback at an exhibition match in Las Vegas against Carlos Alcaraz. “I would have loved to play in Doha, where the tournament team, as well as the amazing Qatar fans, have always supported me greatly. Unfortunately, I am not ready to compete and I won’t be able to come to Doha where I really wanted to be and play again,” said Nadal in a statement. Daniil Medvedev also won’t be around to defend his title at the Qatar Open. Medvedev released a press release announcing his withdrawal, and explained he’s “still not 100% ready to compete.” He apologized to the tournament officials, the sponsors, and the fans, and said he’s looking forward to coming back to Doha in the future.
