Naomi Osaka Loses in First Round of French Open, Wimbledon Future Uncertain

Naomi Osaka was expected to make a huge comeback at the French Open this year, but her time at the tournament was cut short. She was eliminated in the very first round of Roland Garros after losing to Amanda Anisimova on Monday. The former world no. 1 struggled with an Achilles injury before the French Open. She did her best to stand her ground against Anisimova, but the 20-year-old American player came out victorious, scoring a 7-5 6-4 win. This loss was a huge blow for Osaka, and she’s not sure if she’s going to play at the next big Grand Slam – Wimbledon. The tournament was stripped of ranking points following their Russian ban, and Osaka said she’s thinking of not taking part because it feels like an exhibition without ranking points. "I didn't even make my decision yet, but I'm leaning more towards not playing given the current circumstances… I would love to go just to get some experience on the grass court, but at the same time I'm the type of player that gets motivated by seeing my ranking go up," she explained. Osaka wasn’t the only player who was unexpectedly eliminated in the first round of the French Open. The defending champion Barbora Krejcikova also failed to make it to the next round after losing to Diane Parry.
