Nick Kyrgios To Miss Australian Open, Says He’s “Tired” of Playing Tennis

Most tennis players can’t wait to kick off the season at the Australian Open, but Nick Kyrgios doesn’t seem to be one of them. The former Wimbledon finalist announced he’ll miss his home Grand Slam and said he’s tired of playing tennis. Kyrgios confirmed he won’t take part in the Australian Open just last week. He said it’s heartbreaking to miss the tournament because he made many amazing memories there, but added he needs a little bit more time to recover and get back to playing at the top of his game. Kyrgios doubled down on his statement during a recent appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast and said he doesn’t feel like playing tennis anymore because he feels exhausted. "I'm tired. I have had three surgeries now. I'm only 28 years old, I always wanted to have a family and not be in pain. When I get up, I can't walk without pain. It's a tough gig… I only want to play for about another one to two years, be at the top, and go down my own terms,” explained Kyrgios. Kyrgios’ career experienced a downward spiral after he reached his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon in 2022. He missed most of the 2023 season after withdrawing from the Australian Open with a knee injury.
