Novak Djokovic Loses to Alex de Minaur at the United Cup

The leading nations in the world of tennis are facing off at the United Cup in Australia as we speak, and one of the latest quarter-final matches didn’t go as expected. Novak Djokovic suffered a crushing loss to Alex de Minaur - his first in Australia since 2018. Djokovic represented Serbia at this year’s United Cup, but they were eliminated from the competition after Djokovic lost to Australia’s De Minaur 6-4 6-4 in Perth. This marks Djokovic's first loss in Australia since 2018, and it comes only 11 days before he’s set to defend his title at the Australian Open. Djokovic didn’t seem too concerned about his Australian Open chances following this loss, adding he has enough time to get himself in the right shape before the first Grand Slam of the year. “I knew that probably, [I am] not going to be at 100 percent physically, emotionally, mentally game-wise in the opening week of a season… I was not on my level, but it was just one of these days where I didn't feel my best on the court, and [my] opponent played very well,” said Djokovic. The United Cup will conclude on January 7, and Australia will face either Greece or Germany in the semi-finals after defeating Serbia.
