Novak Djokovic Suffers Indian Wells Loss to Underdog Luca Nardi

Novak Djokovic hasn’t been in his top form since the start of 2024, and his unlucky streak continued at Indian Wells. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was eliminated from the tournament in the third round after suffering a shocking loss to the underdog Luca Nardi. Despite being ranked 123 in the world, Nardi managed to stand his ground against the No. 1 player. They came face to face in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open on Monday night, and the 20-year-old Italian pulled a major upset, beating Djokovic 6-4 3-6 6-3. Djokovic came into this year’s Indian Wells hoping he’ll break a tie with Roger Federer for most wins at this tournament. He didn’t hide his disappointment after suffering a loss to Nardi, who’s the lowest-ranked player to ever defeat him in an ATP Masters 1000 event. “Very poor performance from my side, and no titles this year, that’s not something I’m used to… It’s part of the sport and you just have to accept it. Some you win, some you lose. Hopefully, I will win some more. I’ll still keep going,” Djokovic told reporters. This isn’t the first shocking loss Djokovic suffered this year. Jannik Sinner defeated him in the Australian Open semi-finals, and he went on to suffer another unexpected loss to Alex de Minaur at the United Cup.
