Novak Djokovic Wins Record-Breaking 23rd Grand Slam at French Open

Novak Djokovic came into this year’s French Open determined to make history – and that’s exactly what he did! The Serbian player broke another epic record after defeating Casper Ruud in the final and made history as the first male tennis player to win 23 Grand Slams. The first set between Djokovic and Ruud was pretty intense, but the sky was the limit for Djokovic after he easily won the first-set tie-break. He set the foundation for an easy win with this achievement and eventually defeated the Norwegian player 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 7-5. Djokovic said that he’s beyond fortunate to win the 23rd Grand Slam of his career, and he plans to keep winning them for the foreseeable future. "The journey is still not over. If I'm winning Slams, why even think about ending the career that already has been going on for 20 years? I still feel motivated and inspired to play the best tennis in these tournaments. These are the ones that count the most in the history of our sport,” he explained. The record was previously held by Rafael Nadal, who withdrew from the French Open due to a lingering hip injury. He congratulated Djokovic for this amazing achievement, saying that “23 is a number that just a few years back was impossible to think about.”
