Rory McIlroy Makes History with His Record Third FedEx Cup Win

This year’s FedEx Cup was one for the books, and Rory McIlroy was enjoying it more than anyone. He had tough competition in Scottie Scheffler and Im Sung-jae but managed to come out victorious and make history as the only player to win the FedEx Cup on three separate occasions. FedEx Cup’s Tour Championship was unpredictable until the very last moment, and things got pretty heated once McIlroy managed to overturn Scottie Scheffler's six-shot lead. The sky was the limit after this glorious comeback, and he eventually won by just one stroke over Scheffler and Im Sung-jae. This marks McIlroy’s fifth title of the season and he ended up winning the prize money of $18 million. The tournament took place at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, and he called it the greatest place in the world to play golf following his triumph. "This is an incredibly proud moment for me, but it should also be an incredibly proud moment for the PGA Tour. They have had some hard times this year, but we are getting through it and that was a spectacle out there today,” said McIlroy. McIlroy’s statement is a clear dig against the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series and the players making a switch. He took a firm stance against it and said that he hates “what it's doing to the game of golf.”
