Southampton’s 25-Game Unbeaten Run Ends with a Loss to Bristol City

Southampton has been on a roll in the past few months, but it was just a matter of time before their unbeaten run came to an end. The Stains suffered a tragic loss to Bristol City on Tuesday night, which marked the conclusion of their club-record 25-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Southampton had not suffered a loss in any competition since September 23, 2023, but luck wasn’t on their side on Tuesday night. Their defense fell apart at Ashton Gate after they found a formidable opponent in Bristol City. Following the goalless first half, Bristol took the lead thanks to Sam Bell’s opening goal, 52 minutes into the game. Rob Dickie and Harry Cornick contributed to Bristol’s 3-1 victory, and Adam Armstrong’s late penalty was the only consolation prize for the struggling Saints. Southampton head coach Russell Martin addressed their unbeaten run after the match and admitted he has mixed feelings about breaking it. “I’m disappointed tonight, but immensely proud of the players for the run we have been on. To go 25 games unbeaten is phenomenal... The amazing run was always going to come to an end and now it is all about how we respond,” said Martin.
