Team Matthews Defeats Team McDavid in 2024 NHL All-Star Final

The NHL All-Star Game is always worth waiting for, and this year’s final was one for the books. Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid captained the competing teams in the final, and Team Matthews ended up scoring a confident 7-4 win in front of the Toronto crowd. The Toronto Maple Leafs’ Matthews was joined by several of his teammates, including Morgan Rielly, William Nylander, and Mitch Marner. They defeated Team Hughes, led by Vancouver Canucks’s Quinn Hughes on their way to the final, before sealing the deal with the 7-4 win against Team McDavid. Matthews scored two of the winning goals, while Clayton Keller, Mitch Marner, Filip Forsberg, Alex DeBrincat, and Mathew Barzal added one more each. Goalies Igor Shesterkin and Jakob Oettinger also deserve the credit for stopping 15 of 19 shots in the winning effort. Matthews came into this year’s NHL All-Star Game determined to win the whole thing, and his teammates embraced the same mentality. “We wanted to win, for sure. Talking in the locker room, I don’t think there was much messing around. Everybody was on the same page to try to go out there and put in a pretty good effort and try to come out with a good result,” said Matthews post-game.
